Joseph Zbukvic

A true master of watercolour

Joseph Zbukvic (Zagreb, 1952) is one of the most outstanding contemporary watercolourists and one of the most important masters of our time, although his parents tried to discourage him from his interest in art as a young man and he spent some time studying languages and literature at university. Political instability in Croatia forced the Zbukvic family to emigrate to Australia in 1970. Once settled in Melbourne, he saw the opportunity to chase his artistic career, graduating in Art from Deakin University in 1974. His enormous success is due to his ability for transforming any theme into something sensitive, lyrical, atmospheric and poetic.

Master of masters

Considered by many as a master of masters, Zbukvic received his first major art award in 1974 at his university, soon to be followed by many others because since 1978 he has dedicated himself to painting full-time. The awards and recognitions did not stop coming, as well as numerous exhibitions all over the world. Specifically, in his 40-year career he has won more than 200 awards. In addition, he has produced five best-selling educational DVDs and has also published the book “Atmosphere and Mood in Watercolor”. In his accounts on social media (@josephzbukvic) he shows his latest works, as well as his upcoming projects such as demonstrations, workshops and exhibitions.

"I discovered Escoda brushes 30 years ago by accident and was immediately impressed by their quality […]. I would be lost without my Escoda brushes."

Admiration and mutual respect between Escoda and Joseph Zbukvic:

“I discovered Escoda brushes 30 years ago by accident and was immediately impressed by their quality, which is why I have continued to use them ever since. The ability to hold the finest of points is unsurpassed by any other brush. I would be lost without my Escoda brushes.”
