Stephanie Bower

A master of technique

Seattle-based Stephanie Bower worked as a licensed Architect in New York City before gravitating to professional architectural illustration and concept design. She works with many noted architects, landscape architects, and designers such as Olson Kundig, Perkins + Will, MITHUN and others to create a wide range of pencil and watercolor illustrations.

One of the most important artists of the urban sketching movement

A popular instructor and globe-trotting Urban Sketcher, Stephanie follows her passion to travel and teach perspective and watercolor workshops around the world, including at eight Urban Sketchers symposiums. A self-taught watercolor artist, her awards include the prestigious Gabriel Prize fellowship in architecture to Paris, the Civita Institute’s fellowship to Italy, and she was twice honored with “Best Travel Sketch” in the KRob international architectural delineation competition.

People across the globe follow Stephanie’s location sketches online via Instagram (@stephanieabower) and Facebook. She is a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society and has been featured in Watercolor Artist and Artist magazines. In addition, she is the author of three best-selling books on Urban Sketching.

“I’m the proud owner of many Escoda brushes, and I use them both in my studio for my illustration work and on my urban sketching travels around the world. They are so exquisitely designed and crafted with beautiful bristles that maintain their spring and shape, a sleek metal cap that fits snuggly and protects the brush when tossed about in my travel bag, and a perfectly weighted balance in my hand. I often say that they should be on display at the Museum of Modern Art as the most perfectly designed watercolor brush ever. They are my constant companion and favorite tool on my sketching adventures around globe.”
